This delicious pasta dish is ready to serve in minutes. Full of fresh flavors from lemon, basil, and garlic then topped with toasty garlic breadcrumbs, this pasta is great as a side dish or a quick meal.
The breadcrumb topping is optional. If you would like to make it, prepare it before you begin to cook the pasta. Add the butter and oil to a skillet over medium heat.
1 tablespoon Butter, 1 tablespoon Olive Oil
When the butter is melted, add the garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute. Add the breadcrumbs and cook until browned, 3 to 5 minutes stirring almost constantly.
1 tablespoon Garlic, ½ cup Panko Breadcrumbs
For the Pasta:
Bring the water and salt to a boil in a medium saucepan, over high heat. Once the water begins to boil, reduce the heat to medium.
5 cups Water, 2 teaspoon Salt
Once the water is boiling, Heat the olive oil, butter, chili flakes, and garlic in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook, stirring frequently until the garlic is fragrant about 30 seconds to 1 minute.
Add about 2 cups of the boiling water to the skillet with the oil and garlic. Place the dry pasta in the skillet and give it a quick stir to separate the pasta.
16 oz Angel Hair Pasta
Allow the pasta to simmer over medium-high heat, stirring almost constantly. When most of the water has been absorbed, add another cup of the boiling water and continue cooking and stirring. Repeat this process until the pasta is cooked to almost al dente (about 2-3 minutes)
Stir in the lemon juice. Allow the pasta to continue cooking for 1-2 minutes or until the pasta is cooked. Add additional water if your pasta is too dry.
2-3 Lemons
Stir in the fresh basil and half of the lemon zest. Serve immediately topped with the prepared breadcrumbs, and the remaining lemon zest if desired.
